Building the future

Maths at school for me was never easy. I was the kid who would have anxiety in a maths class – getting tearful when the topic didn’t make sense. It seemed everyone around me always understood what was happening in our lesson and I felt that if I missed just one maths lesson my whole ability and confidence was lost.

If you had ever told the 16 year old me, I would be teaching students maths in the years to come, I would probably have laughed it away! Back then maths to me was not fun, it was not engaging and it definitely wasn’t cool. In fact I vividly remember the day I told my parents I wanted to study A-Level maths…they literally fell off their chairs with shock.

Fast forward to today and I love using my own journey to show students that maths does not have to be a problem.
Of course maths will be difficult at times – it is for one a language of its own with many different stages and avenues to explore.
But, my experiences allow me to support and empathise with your teenager and their struggles.

Working closely with the family of students, I also understand the battles that adults may hold towards maths, or the process of working towards exams, be it for their own learning or as a parent.
